WE ARE CLOSED TO SUBMISSIONS.

Manuscripts submitted when we are closed to submissions will be automatically deleted with no response and your email will be blocked.

Please check back for updates as life happens and plans change.

Inquiring about submissions while we are closed will frustrate our editor. If you’re wondering if your manuscript is right for Grindhouse Press the answer can be found by reading this entire page.

Please sign up for our newsletter on the home page or check this page for updates.

READ THIS BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER:

Please read submission guidelines carefully. Failure to follow the guidelines will result in an automatic rejection without the editor opening the manuscript.

Before submitting, please take the time to familiarize yourself with our books, including the covers, interiors, and content. If you do not like our covers, fonts, or layouts please do not submit your manuscript. We have in-house designers and work with only a few approved artists. It is frustrating for our editors to go through the whole process of editing and designing, and for us to invest money into a book, only for a writer to pull it from publication because they do not like a design aspect. Would you tell your boss how to do their job? Please don’t tell us how to run our press. We currently have a growing catalog of over 90 titles and plan to keep our aesthetic uniform and fair to all of our authors. If you would like total control over your book’s appearance you may want to research self-publishing.

Be sure to submit the correct manuscript you would like for us to publish. Again, it is very frustrating for our editors to edit a manuscript only to have to edit it again. Please do not request to make revisions to the manuscript after we have accepted it. If we send an acceptance it is for the manuscript we received, not for a revised story. We read the manuscript at the time of submission, edit your manuscript after acceptance, and proofread the files once they’re formatted and ready for publication. We do not have the time, nor do we like to repeat any of these steps. If you send us the wrong version of your manuscript, or request to make changes to the story after acceptance, there is a strong likelihood it will be pulled from publication and your contract will be canceled.

We are a small press. Two to four people will be involved in the publication of your book. Each of those people have other projects, jobs, and obligations. Being a small press, our resources and budget are limited. We will do our best to help promote your publication through social media and our site, we strive to answer emails within 24 hours, and we always pay our authors on time.

If you’re still on board then please keep reading.

WHEN WE OPEN, THIS IS WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Horror, extreme horror, dark fiction, sleaze, and exploitation. If you are unsure whether your book is right for Grindhouse Press, again, please take some time to familiarize yourself with our catalog. We do not put a limit on content and we’re open to reading horror from any subgenre. As our name suggests, we’re most interested in the written version of the Grindhouse film genre. And no, not the Grindhouse films from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez (although they’re good examples). We’re looking for content that could remind our readers of the Grindhouse films of the 60s and 70s and the Video Nasties of the 80s.

WHAT WE DON’T WANT:

Please do not submit co-authored books, simultaneous submissions, previously published works, or incomplete manuscripts. It should go without saying, but we are a horror press. We are NOT interested in non-fiction, anthologies, fantasy, collections, second person point of view, science fiction, poetry, young adult, short stories, series, art books, bizarro, or experimental fiction. Please do not send historical horror, vampires, serial killers, or zombie manuscripts. If you send anything from the previous list it will be deleted without response.

SUBMISSIONS:

Your submission should be 30,000+ words. The ideal range is between 30-60,000 words. We do not have a maximum limit but please keep it under 100,000 words.

Please send a brief synopsis (150 words or less) in the body of your email with an explanation as to why you’ve chosen to submit to Grindhouse Press (there are no right or wrong answers here). Please attach your manuscript to the email as a Word document only, double spaced, Times New Roman 12 point, and send to our submissions email at grindhousepress (at) yahoo (dot) com. The subject line should read: “Submission-Title of Novel by Author.”

TERMS:

• 50/50 royalty split on English language paperbacks.
• Author retains all rights and royalties for digital (we will format all of the author’s files and walk them through the publishing process if they would like their Grindhouse title available as an ebook), limited editions, hard covers, audio, film, and foreign translations.
• 5 contributor copies. The author can purchase unlimited additional copies at cost plus shipping.

We’re a very small publisher and hope to publish 10 – 12 books a year. In other words, the likelihood of your book being accepted is very slim. We will try to respond within 3 months after the submission has been received. Due to the high volume of submissions, we may not be able to respond to all of them. If you do not hear from us within 3 months, your manuscript has been rejected. If you do receive a rejection it will be a standard form. We will not critique your manuscript.

Thanks for thinking of Grindhouse Press!
