Hey folks,
It’s that time of year again! Let’s take a look back on everything that’s happened over the last year at Grindhouse Press. I’ll start with the business stuff. Grindhouse Press published eight books in 2023. I’ll go ahead and list them below. You can click on each title to be redirected for purchase. Remember, these will be the titles eligible for awards if you find that they tickle your fancy and would like to recommend them.
The Hands of Onan by Chris DiLeo
Graffiti Tombs by Matt Serafini
The Prettiest Girl in the Grave by Kristopher Triana
Hysteria: Lolly & Lady Vanity by Ali Seay
Bad Movie Night by Patrick Lacey
Kill The Hunter by Bryan Smith
We only did two events this year because our personal lives got a bit crazy. We’d like to thank everyone who came out to buy books at the Scarelastic Book Fair and at the spring Cinema Wasteland show. We only have one event scheduled for 2024, which is the Scarelastic Book Fair on March 2, 2024. If you’d like to find out more about the event you can find everything you need here: https://www.simpletix.com/e/scarelastic-book-fair-2-tickets-140967
2024 is gonna be another busy one. We have seven books we’ll be publishing next year. Here they are in the order they’ll be published.
An Affinity for Formaldehyde by Chloe Spencer
The Killing Kind by Bryan Smith
Headless by Scott Cole
Cute Aggression by Emily Lynn
I Think I’m Alone Now by Ali Seay
What Ever Happened to Jo Rose? by Chris DiLeo
(Currently Untitled Collection) by Bryan Smith
At the moment, I’m not real sure if we’ll be opening to submissions in 2024. This has to do with what is happening in my personal life. If you don’t want to hear all the boring details of that stuff you can stop reading now.
Last year was a roller coaster on the personal stuff. We bought a house, got married, and then some scary stuff happened at our day job. If you didn’t already know, my partner and I work at the same day job. So both of our incomes were affected. We’ve both taken up side gigs to help financially. This is why I’m not sure if Grindhouse will open to submissions next year. The second job doesn’t leave much wiggle room, and honestly, when I’m not working I just want to relax.
On to the health stuff. Things are okay. I got some injections in some joints, did a little physical therapy for my knee that I believe will never be right, and I was scheduled to go in to talk to my family doc about some tests she wants to run (she mentioned sending me to a rheumatologist at my last visit) but then I got the rona. So that appointment has been pushed back until the end of next month. Oh, the rona. This is the first time I’ve gotten it. I’ve known people to have it four times already. One person at our day job wasn’t feeling great one day and the whole office got it. If you look up the symptoms, I had every single one. I was starting to think I had the flu on top of the rona on the second day. I’m still having some fatigue issues and have to take naps, but I’m hoping that will get better soon. My partner got it too and had the sniffles for a day. I had a fever that spiked to 103, which was scary as hell, and couldn’t even keep down water. And for some reason my heart rate was around 100 bpm during the fever and I had to take a beta blocker to slow it down. I sure as hell don’t want it again.
I hope all of you are doing well and your 2023 was a good one.
